Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

- 1 Peter 1:3

What’s your glory story from 2020?

As Solomon so wisely put it, "there is nothing new under the sun," and yet our world has faced a more heightened intensity of trial and suffering than any year in recent history.

How can we as followers of Jesus give thanks and rejoice this Thanksgiving in light of all the pain, loss and suffering that is going on in our world? To be honest, I don’t think we could if our rejoicing was dependent on the circumstances of this world. Only because our hope and joy is dependent on the God who exists outside of our circumstances can we rejoice this Thanksgiving. In 1 Peter 1:3-9, Peter reminds the people of God who have been scattered far and wide because of persecution that the reason they can rejoice in their suffering is because they have been born into the family of God by faith in Jesus. They are a new creation, born of the Holy Spirit and as children of God they stand to inherit all of God’s promises despite their suffering. In fact, Peter says that if we are looking, we can see God’s hand at work in our lives in the midst of the suffering.

So where have you seen God's hand in your life this year? What is the "glory story" in which God was revealed in your life in 2020 as he has protected you, provided for you, cared for you, and guided you? Don’t let it be just a story in your own mind. Make it a glory story by telling others of the glory of God you’ve experienced in Jesus through 2020!
