Special Care

"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them" - Genesis 1:27

At Trinity, we believe that every single person has been fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139) and is made in His image. Every person holds great value in the eyes of God and is the object of His great love. The Special Care Ministry (SCM) team understands that this is a view that is most consistent with who God is in light of His Word (the Scriptures). Therefore, it is our purpose to reach families of children and adults with special needs, extending to them the compassion of Christian fellowship, and providing loving support and a safe environment for nurturing a growing knowledge and faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Our compassionate volunteers make themselves available to provide ministry to individuals and their families in the following ways:

Heart-to-Heart is a relational component of our ministry that is meant to include children with special needs in the life of our church family. The SCM team seeks to pair a trained volunteer buddy with a child who has special needs for the purpose of lovingly and compassionately assisting them during their Sunday school class which is made up of peers of their same age. Our volunteers serve alongside their buddy to help them experience the love of God, embrace the truth of God and enlist in the service of God in their time together. It is our desire that Heart-to-Heart ministry will not only benefit the child with special needs but will also enable their parents and siblings to also attend their own Sunday school class and/or worship service.

Sonshine Room

The Sonshine Room is a room that serves as a ‘break room’ or ‘drop by’ space and is available to students on Sunday mornings. Accompanied by a SCM team member or a parent, the Sonshine room provides a safe space for a child who may need a break due to heightened sensitivity to their environment or as a space to prepare themselves for their time in worship or their Sunday school class. In this room, they will receive compassionate care from a volunteer allowing them to calm and refocus before reentering their regular classroom.

Parents’ Night Out

The Special Care Ministry sponsors a quarterly parents’ night out. While parents enjoy a much needed break--to help strengthen their marriage, enjoy friends, or simply run errands--their child with special needs (birth-18) and his or her siblings will enjoy a simple meal, devotional time, praise and worship time, and lots of fun! Please click here for the Parents' Night Out form.
